Last Will And Testament

In Hebrews 9: 16-17, we are told our Lord had a last will and testament. It is only available at the death of the writer of the will. Many in our day have an executor or power of attorney to insure the will is carried out. In the New Testament we find several "I Will" statements made by our Lord. These are now redeemable promises. He arose from the dead and stands as executor and power of attorney making the word good.

Matthew 11:28-30

"The I Will Of Rest"

I. The Impotency of Rest

A. Political unrest (11:2-3) Herod enraged over John ‘s rebuke.

B. Personal unrest (11:28) followers at wits end, the Lord says, "I will give you rest."

II. The Invitation to Rest

A. Person of the invitation (vs. 28) rest not in a place but a person "come unto ME"

B. Pressures of the invitation( vs. 28) Labor-fatigue or burn out heavy laden- to put more on than one can carry. Job 14:1 our mother being a woman assures us we will have trouble. II Cor. 1:8-9 Paul assures us He will put more on us than we can carry to drive us to Him.

III. The Instrument of Rest

A. Easy Yoke (vs.30) easy- to furnish what is needed for grazing light- to carry or bear over

B. Entered Yoke (vs. 29) take My yoke Not a double yoke, I pull 50%He pulls 50%. One yoke He carries the whole load.

IV. The Instruction of Rest

A. Lesson of instruction (vs.29) "learn of Me" To understand by a word. As sheep graze in grass, Christians graze in the word.

B. Lord of Instruction (vs.29) meek and lowly. When confronted with a heavy load I graze in the Word and He bears the load.

V. The Inheritance of Rest

A. Proclamation of the inheritance (vs. 28) "1 Will" He stand behind His Will.

B. Present of Rest (vs.28) give- present, rest- to recline to take a break recreation. You couldn ‘t get this at Wal-Mart  if they had a blue light special.
