"Preach The Word"

PRACTICING THE PRESENCE
OF CHRIST

JOHN 15

It is believed that the disciples have just finished the Upper-Room Experience. Christ will die the next day. Between these two experiences it is believed that Christ shared John 14-17 with the disciples.

The Position Of Abiding

I. The Person Of This Position

Possibly on the way to the garden, Christ with the disciples stopped in front of the Jewish Temple. Above the temple was the emblem of the vine - the Jewish symbol for their connection with God. This vine was also pictured on the back of their money.

A. Title of this Position (vs. 1) "lAm..." (Jehovah - Self sufficient one)

B. Testimony of this Person (vs. 1) "...the true vine..." (the real one)

II. The Principle Of This Position (abide - mentioned 9 times)

A. Principle Defined

Abide - to become one, continually with another, at home in

B. Principle Has Depth (vs. 4)

He will create fruit in our lives. These fruits being the fruit of the spirit.

III. The Place In This Position

A. Grafted In (vs. 13)

"kutiks" off scouring of the earth, fat left in the bottom of the pan. Vs. 17- Wild olive tree - a brown stick

B. Growing Up (vs. 36) ‘for of him and through him..."

IV. The Possession From This Position (John 15:4)

A. We Possess Hope "Abide in me, and I in you..."

Colossians - "i.. Christ in you, the hope of glory."

B. We Possess Life

"Christ liveth in me..."

Illustration: Are you deep or shallow in the Lord? An old timer once told his neighbor that he got all of his drinking water from the nearby pond. The neighbor knew that the pond was usually very muddy and could not understand how it could be used. The old timer replied, "the water is crystal clear at SO foot." "That's where my connection is." May our connection always be deep in Him. Shallow tends to be muddy.
