THE MINISTER OF FEAR

Jeremiah 2

FEAR - Two translations

1. dreadful, cause to be afraid, dread to the point of anxiety.

2. to stand in awe - Jeremiah uses the first translation offered.

I. The Persuasion Of Fear

God uses the persuasion of fear to drive men to himself vs. 19 ‘~..that my fear is not in the,..."

Heb. 10:25-31 This passage shows our lack of fear of God "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together..."

vs. 31 "...a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God." Jer. 32:40 "...I will put my fear in their hearts,..."

Rom. 3:18 "There is no fear of God..."

II. The Pinnacle Of Fear (Matt. 10)

God's highest form of fear is the fear of being lost in hell.

vs. 28 "...fear not them which kill the body...not able to kill the soul..fear him which is able to destroy both soul an body in hell"

v.31 "Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows."

III. The Prayer Of Fear (Romans 8)

In our fear may we realize that we are adopted children of the Father. vs. 15 "...ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear;"

(We are not serving the Lord out of fear)

"...received the Spirit of adoption..."

"... we cry, Abba Father." (We are to pray to our Pa Pa, our Da Da)

IV. The Promise Of Fear (I John 4)

Thank you Lord for your everlasting love.

vs. 18 "...no fear in love; but perfect love (agape, intimate) casteth out fear:"

Perfect love - reckless abandonment to self

vs. 19 "We love him, because he first loved us."

Rom 5:5 "...the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost..."

Illustration: It was our privilege to be involved in a tornado in April of ‘99. We were at a church near Winston Salem, NC. This was a very devastating storm and did millions of dollars of damage in that area. The church building that we were in was built in the 1800's and its foundation was of river rocks. Needless to say with winds of 150 mph we were in a very unstable situation. The pastor of the church would give us a blow by blow report of what was happening. As long as we kept our eyes on the storm our hearts were struck with fear, but when my wife and! turned our hearts towards God in prayer we were flooded with perfect peace.
