Intro: When I married my wife, I didn't marry her to get a cook! I didn't marry her to get a house-keeper. I didn't marry her to get a wash-woman. I didn't marry her to get a good mother! I married her to get her! Imagine what would happen if I came in one night and started kissing the refrigerator, or hugging the vacuum!
*This book records the courtship, companionship, and partner-ship of the King and a Shulamite damsel. The King became a Shepherd that the slave might become a bride. Hear her witness.
1. A Confession Of Faith - 2:16
*We must view this confession on the basis of her experience.
A. A momentous experience - brought to palace; 8:11; 1:7, 8
B. A miraculous experience - look at me v.5, 6; look at him v.9
C. A marvelous experience - in his arms 2:4-7
*Although her testimony is immature, it is true & real to her.
2. A Confession Of Fellowship - 6:3
*A further testimony is made after she sees her failures
A. She failed to appreciate his fellowship - 2:8-3:5 (old life)
B. She failed to appropriate his fellowship - 3:6-5:1 (new life)
C. She failed to anticipate his fellowship - 5:2-6:3 (self life)
*She has grown from a me-he world to a he-me world; but...
3. A Confession Of Fulness - 7:10
*Her testimony is only of him, not me & him or him & me.
A. The inflow of his fulness - 6:4-12; receiving His intimacy
B. The overflow of his fulness - 6:13-7:9; more loving moments
C. The outflow of his fulness - 7:10-8:14; field; villages; others
*When we learn how to receive Christ's love, we can truly share it with others!
Conci: A French botanist, who specialized in the little daffodil flower, received a large arrangement of them for his birthday. He was embarrassed when he couldn't remember the name of the flowers. He knew the details, but had never admired the beauty!
