"Preach The Word"

Our Exalted Beloved (Eph. 1:19-23)

Intro: Atlanta, GA has become a major hub city jn our nation. Thafs why the Olympics were held there~ (1996). Not only does its Hartsville Airport serve the international community, but the business routes of the south-eastern United States criss-cross the city.

*The name "Beloved" (see 1:6) is the hub title of the chapter. Everytime we read of "Him" or "Whom," the reference is to Christ, the Beloved. In these verses, we see His exalted status! We see Him as the resurrected, regal, & ruling Beloved.

1. The Power Of Our Exalted Beloved - 1:19

* Four Gr. words in this one verse describe Christ's power!

A. Essential power - "dunamis" = inherent; natural power

B. Effectual power - "energio" = working; operative; efficient

C. Exceptional power - "ischus" = mighty; force, resurrection

D. Endurable power - "kratos" = reigning, ruling, dominion.

2. The Position Of Our Exalted Beloved - 1:20, 21

*Over the earth in grace; heaven in glory; abyss in government

A. Above all "principality" - princes, rulers

B. Above all "power" - angels, demons, civil magistrates

C. Above all "might" - power-possessors! Even angelic powers.

D. Above all "dominion" - lords, kings, authorities

3. The Preeminence Of Our Exalted Beloved - 1:22, 23

*Not only above all, but "Head" of all!

A. Head of all realms - "under His feet"

B. Head of all races - "all things"

C. Head of all redeemed - "to the church"

D. Head of all rebels - over sinners; over judgment; over hell

Cond: Some people have let position ruin them. Their personalities, goals and relationships are marred by their new appreciation of themselves. Christ's exalted state has not changed, and will not change His redemptive role. He cares for His Own!
