Text: Heb. 4:14
Intro: When the patrolman stopped the speedster, the driver-looked much differently than on his license. When questioned about it, the man explained, "I have contacts!" The officer quickly responded, "I don't care who you know, you were speeding and you are getting a ticket."
*We have connections in Christ! He is our law of approach!
*There are three priestly books in NT -
- CHRIST, OUR PRIEST ON EARTH!
HEBREWS - CHRIST, OUR PRIEST IN HEAVEN!
ACTS - WHAT HAPPENS ON EARTH WHEN WE BELIEVE HE*S OUR PRIEST!
1. The Preeminence Of Christ
*s Priesthood*A change of scenes - dark/dismal/desperate (see vs. 12, 13)
A. His ability is set forth - "great"= able, or capable
B. His awesomeness is set forth - "high"= superior; above all
C. His authority is set forth - "passed through"= owns heavens see Psa.24:7-10
2. The Person Of Christ*s Priesthood
*Who Christ is also imparts hope!
A. The sonship of Christ - "son of God"/Divinity
B. The substance of Christ - "God"/Deity
C. The saviorhood of Christ - "Jesus"=Savior/Deliverance
3. The Peculiarity Of Christ's Priesthood
*As taught in Hebrews, Christ's priesthood is superior!
A. Personal - "we"; Illus. Samaritan came near (Luke 10)
B. Possessional - "have"; Gr. "my"clothes /"my" companion
C. Purposeful - "we have" - repeated in v. 15
Conclusion: I took my 5 year old daughter in the men's store with me. The salesman kept picking at her and then asked, "What's a girl doing in a boy's store?" Totally aggravated by him, she pointed to me and said, "He*s my daddy!" The primary reason we can approach God is because Christ is our High Priest!
