Text: Heb. 4:15 Intro: It has been well said that "A true friend is coming in when everyone else is going out!" These verses teach that Jesus is more than a Priest. He is a Friend! He identifies with us; He cares for us! He has a heart for us! Jesus is compassionate and piteous towards us and grants us access to God. The Greek word for "touched" means "sympathetic, or to become one with." In what ways is Jesus sympathetic with us? 1. He Knows What We Are Feeling! * "feeling"= our inner consciousnessA. The pressure we feel - change/circumstances/conflictsB. The pain we feel - hurt/memories/rejectionC. The possiblities we feel - what if?/ I wonder?ILLUS. DR. STUART HUTCHISON TOLD OF A BOY WHO LOST HIS RIGHT HAND. ALTHOUGH HE DIDN*T WANT ANYONE TO SEE HIM, HIS FATHER ASKED A MINISTER TO VISIT HIM. BECAUSE HE HAD LOST HIS RIGHT HAND, TOO, THE MINISTER COULD SAY, "I KNOW HOW IT FEELS!" JESUS KNOWS HOW IT FEELS! 2. He Knows What We Are Facing! "infirmities"= sicknesses, weaknesses, basically limitations. A. We are limited in our understanding - mental limitationsB. We are limited in our undergirding - emotional limitationsC. We are limited in our undertaking - physical, or spiritual3. He Knows What We Are Fighting! "tempted"= evil suggestions: solicitations "all"= an inclusive word; takes in every sphereA. Having overcome everyone, He understands people! B. Having overcome everything, He understands predicaments! C. Having overcome everywhere, He understands places! Conclusion: My wife had a very difficult time with our middle daughter living and working in Atlanta last summer. She missed her and mourned for her. Trying to be a friend and a comfort to her, our five-year old said, "When I grow up, I *m never going to get a job!" Oh, dear friends, "There's not a Friend like Jesus!"SERMON FROM EVANGELIST TOM HAYES |
