"Preach The Word"

The Purity of Christ

Text: Heb. 4:15,16

Intro: The Tabernacle in the Wilderness had three points of access: the gate, the door, and the veil. In answer to these entrances, Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh to the Father but by Me" (John 14:6). He is our only law, or means of approach to God!

"The purity of Jesus is a special doorway into God's presence! The text tells us that He is "without," or seperate from sin!

1. His Pure Life

*Jesus was without "blemish" (internal), and "spot" (external)

A. In His being - pure light-I Jn. 1:5/pure love-I Jn.4:8

B. In His body - not less than God/ no fault/"well pleased"

C. In His battles - in temptation, Jesus had no sin nature that would respond to the enemy; see John 14:30

2. His Pure Link

*God so holy, man so unholy; there must be a pure Mediator!

A. In reconciliation - The sinless Christ; sinner's only Hope.

B. In representation - Only He could enter the holy presence.

C. In restoration - A way into the holiest; as in Garden of Eden

ILLUS. PAUL, PHILEMON, & ONESIMUS

3. His Pure Love

*His love makes it possible for us to come to God.

A. His love includes us - "let us"

B. His love invites us - "come"

C. His love inspires us - "boldly"=confidently; assuredly

*Let us come! Let us come! Let us come!

Conclusion: As the crew worked on the steep roof of a Greek Orthodox Chapel in Australia, one of the workers lost his footing and fell. When the crew reached the ground, their fellow-worker was walking around and smiling. At the time of his fall, a shepherd was leading his flock by the side of the building. A lamb died, as he fell on it, but he lived to tell the story. Christ, the pure Lamb died to save us from the fall. Let us live in the glory of His death!
