"Preach The Word"

A Truth For The Willing

(1 Kings 19:10-14)

Intro: A beduoin shepherd allowed a tourist to wear his shepherd's array, and act like he was the shepherd. However, when he called the sheep. they would not follow. The shepherd, without his garb. called with his special call, and they heeded his voice. The truth that is set forth In this moment of Elijah's life is that God's voice is more powerful than anything!

**Elijah arose and traveled to Horeb (approx. 180 miles)
**He entered a cave: same cave where Moses was hidden (Exo.33]
**There Is still a measure of withdrawal, embarrassment: but...

The truth of God's still small voice reveals that:

1. It Is More Powerful Than Perplexity - cf. v. 1-8

*Certainly, we would not minimize what God has done...

A. There was a touch in his life - but.. .He needed the voice!

             B.     There was a table in his life - but He needed               the voice!

C. There was a triumph in his life - but...He need the voice!

2. It Is More Powerful Than Phenomena - V. 9-12

‘The divine voice supercedes;

A. The blowing phenomena - v.11 (wind)

          B.  The breaking phenomena - v.11, 12 (earthquake)

C. The burning phenomena - v. 12 (fire)

3. It Is More Powerful Than Passivity - v. 13. 14

A word from God can stir what nothing else can stir!

A. The voice approached him - "heard it">nothing else reached

B. The voice aroused him - "wrapped.. .went out and stood"

C. The voice addressed him - "What doest thou here?"

Concl: Our grandson was trying to find his way through our living room in the middle of the night. He was crying for his Maw-Maw and it was not satisfied until he heard her voice When she responded, he settled down for the remainder of the night. Oh, dear friends, the voice of our Shepherd helps us through the night.
